Twelve Years of Partnership with Georgia

Once a product crosses borders, logistics takes on a vital role. This is particularly true for Georgia, whose economic and cultural ties with the rest of the world continue to expand every day. International logistics company Aramex, founded in 1982, operates in more than 70 countries worldwide and has been present in Georgia since 2014.

For 12 years, Aramex Georgia has been connecting Georgia with the world, providing a complete and uninterrupted delivery chain, from receiving shipments and handling complex customs documentation to the final delivery to the recipient.

Although the company is particularly closely associated with the wine sector, Aramex Georgia’s activities cover a much wider range of services. The company serves both large businesses and individual customers, offering:

  • International and local courier services
  • Air, road, sea, and rail freight transportation
  • Special solutions designed for e-commerce and
  • the delivery of online orders
  • Full customs brokerage support

To ensure that its services are as flexible and accessible as possible throughout the country, Aramex has established strategic offices both in the capital, Tbilisi, and on the Black Sea coast, in Batumi.

The Anatomy of Safety: How Does Georgian Wine Travel?

Georgian wine is not simply a beverage or a commercial product; it is part of our history, culture, and national identity. When a bottle of Georgian wine reaches an international exhibition, a prestigious competition, or the table of a consumer abroad, it represents not only the individual producer but also the image of the entire country. This is why Aramex Georgia approaches wine transportation with exceptional care. Maintaining the correct temperature conditions, preventing mechanical damage to bottles, and managing the complex bureaucratic procedures associated with alcohol imports are the challenges that Aramex Georgia takes responsibility for.

Delivering a bottle from a winery to an international destination is a multi-stage process, one that the company has carefully structured and organised:

Collection and individual packaging: The process begins with an Aramex courier collecting the shipment from the winery. At the company’s warehouse, each bottle is inspected, wrapped in special shock-absorbing protective material, and placed in Aramex-certified, sturdy cardboard boxes. This method minimises the risk of breakage during loading and unloading at terminals.

Palletising and ‘lashing’: The packaged boxes are placed on pallets, where so-called ‘lashing’ is carried out, securing the shipment with special restraints to prevent the boxes from shifting or overturning during transportation.

‘Non-stackable cargo’ status: During air transportation, when required, wine is assigned non-stackable cargo status. This means that no other cargo may be placed on top of the pallet inside the aircraft, protecting the bottles from additional pressure and weight.

Customs brokerage support: The import of alcoholic beverages into countries around the world is strictly regulated. Aramex’s team of professionals reviews all required documentation in advance, including certificates of origin, alcohol content declarations, compliance with labelling requirements, and the licences required in each destination country.

Last mile delivery: In the destination country, the shipment is received by Aramex’s local representative, who completes the terminal procedures before the package is delivered directly to the recipient at the agreed time.

To make the path of Georgian wine to global markets even more accessible, Aramex Georgia has introduced a consolidated cargo service specifically for the wine industry. This initiative allows Georgian producers to send wine to strategic markets such as the United States and China without the requirement of filling an entire container. Producers pay only for the space they use, making international shipments more convenient and financially accessible, particularly for small and medium-sized wineries.

Flexible Solutions: From Family Wineries to Large-Scale Exports

Aramex Georgia’s services are equally accessible to large companies as well as small and medium-sized wineries. The company understands that while one partner’s goal may be the safe export of thousands of bottles by sea or road, for another, the timely delivery of just a few boxes to a potential importer can be equally critical. That is why Aramex Georgia offers each partner individual logistics solutions tailored to their scale and deadlines. For large exporters, the company provides multimodal transportation by air, road, and sea, with full coordination of complex customs and bureaucratic procedures.

For small and medium-sized wineries, the consolidated cargo service is a real discovery. This flexible approach frees winemakers from the obligation of hiring an entire container and allows them to send exactly the amount of wine they need at an affordable rate. Through this strategy, Aramex Georgia helps remove barriers and ensures that Georgia’s rich wine tradition is represented on the global map not only by industrial producers but also by distinctive family wineries.

Partnership with Global Wine Competitions

For a number of years, Aramex Georgia has been the exclusive logistics partner in Georgia for one of the world’s most prestigious wine competitions, the Decanter World Wine Awards (DWWA). In addition, the company regularly organises the transportation of Georgian wine to major international competitions, including MUNDUS VINI, the International Wine & Spirit Competition (IWSC), China Wine Competition (CWC), Sakura Japan Women’s Wine Awards, CWSA, IWC, Asia Wine Challenge, Concurso Internacional Bacchus, CMB, Berliner Wein Trophy, and others.

The company has years of experience working with leading wine and tourism industry exhibitions and festivals around the world, including ITB Berlin, ITB Shanghai, ProWein, Wine Paris & Vinexpo Paris, Vinalies Internationales, Merano Wine Festival, RAW Wine Festival, London Wine Fair, China Food & Drinks Fair, and Berliner Wine Trophy.

Sharing Knowledge and Supporting the Industry

Aramex Georgia’s role in the Georgian wine sector goes beyond transportation and commercial partnerships. The company operates with a strong sense of social responsibility, actively participating in local festivals and professional events such as Wine Ambassadors, Merano Wine Festival, and Winecast.

The company’s General Director, Lika Useinashvili, personally leads information sessions and practical workshops for Georgian winemakers. She shares her experience and explains in detail the practical aspects of entering international markets. The workshops cover critical topics such as: how a winery should prepare for export from a technical and documentation perspective; the differences between customs and import regulations in various countries; how to select the right packaging and transportation methods to minimise risks; and how to plan a logistics budget effectively.

Through a combination of 12 years of continuous development, the capabilities of a global network, and in-depth knowledge of the local market, Aramex Georgia has established itself as a reliable partner for Georgian businesses.

When we speak about Georgian wine, we speak about our history, a story that we have made it our mission to share with the world. Ensuring that this story is delivered safely, promptly, and in the right way is the responsibility of a logistics company. That is why, when Georgian wine, together with Homeland of Wine Magazine, begins a new journey, Aramex Georgia is its trusted partner along the way.
